Medical clinics have traditionally been associated with sterile and impersonal environments. This project takes a different approach, responding to the growing tendency among aesthetic practitioners to offer treatment in spaces that feel warmer and more welcoming. Located within a generic business park in a Toronto suburb, the 700-square-metre clinic faced two primary challenges: limited privacy and a lack of natural light. The design addresses both conditions as the foundation for a more comfortable clinical environment.

The project is organised around a central double-height space topped by a large translucent skylight that brings daylight deep into the interior. Treatment rooms are arranged around this core, creating a clear spatial hierarchy based on varying degrees of light and privacy. Walnut wall cladding introduces warmth to the reception area, providing a strong contrast to the surrounding landscape of office buildings and expansive parking lots.

A café for staff and patients, together with a cosmetics boutique and testing counter, occupy the edges of the central space. These programmes establish a more public zone within the clinic, creating a gradual transition between the entrance and the treatment areas.

Beyond the central space, softly lit circulation corridors lead to the consultation and treatment rooms. Diffused light accompanies this sequence, creating a gradual shift from public to private spaces. Rather than following the atmosphere of a conventional medical facility, the project uses light, material and spatial organisation to support a calmer and more relaxed experience.
